Simple Family Gathering at ChangKee Restaurant in NibongTebal_20090524

My brother going to pursue his study at UK, Liverpool very soon, so I’ve organizes a simple yet meaningful “dinner gathering” with parents and my youngest brother, KS*.

Why I am not using “farewell” this word? Haha, this is due to my mom is “pantang” with this word and scold me terribly when I suggested the farewell dinner with her. She said, KS* will back to PNG after complete his study, so cannot use “Farewell” this words. Haha.. Probably she scared my younger brother will follow my elder sister and brother footstep “gua”, which currently they already stay permanently in foreign country and she miss them very much.

We have decided to go to “Law Chang Kee” Restaurant that located in Nibong Tebal, which it’s roughly about 45mins drive from Penang. We have ordered steam octopus, “Teow Chew” style of AngZor Fish, Crab porridge, and Cook Spinach with Salted Fish.

1) Steam Octopus – It’s consider a appetizer so it always served first, although it’s only steam octopus, but its famous dishes in this restaurant, it taste nicer if you dip together with the Chili Sauté that contain a lot of peanuts.

2) Crab Porridge – This is the main dishes of this visit. The soup is very delicious, and it does always make me feel unforgettable on every visit. Even my dad and mom feel nice as well, may be all of us like to eat crabs? Really miss the time I always enjoy crabs when visit my grandmom at K.Kurau. As she will cook the crabs for us de. Hehe.

3) Teow Chew Style of Angzor Fish – Due to we only have 5 ppls, and they only have the big fish, so they cut small portion for us. That’s why the presentation of this dishes are so weird, not only that, the taste is too sour to me.

4) Spinach with Salted Fish – Although it’s just a vegetable, but it taste very nice. I think because it’s cook together with salted fish. My brother said, this is his favourite among all the dishes.. Cant believe hor? A simple dish can make be my brother's favourite?

Total bill is about RM77.90 for it. I think should be fine for it, as we still have crabs and fish for the meals.

Group Photo - Where is my brother? He is not in the picture, as he insist want to be photographer..

Restoran Kolam Ikan in Sg Kop

Been heard about Sungai Kop is famous with the Fish Pond Restaurant (not far from Kulim High Tech Park) LONG time ago, but there is still has no chance to visit the place. Sienz…. Haha, 终于皇天不负有心人….. I got the sms from M* and she invited me last Sunday, I was so excited and my face very fast shown with tamchiak face already… wakakaka…

ED* meet us at Kulim Petronas and 6 of us fit into his Toyata Wish (good car har which can occupy up 7 ppls). Makan-Makan journey is start…….The restaurant is situated at very “Sangkalar” (urban) place which is deep inside the oil palm plantation, you can consider this is an “Adventurous” trip too, the road is not only bumpy but very small road which its only allow for one car at ond time =P Scared of getting lost? Don’t worry, this restaurant is very famous, you’ll see a lot of signs helping you to get to the restaurant, else you simply grab one person to ask =D

From there, you can see a few huge ponds full with fishes around the shops and a few dogs that keeping away from the snakes, or fish thief? If you are unable to find a seat at the moment, you can roam around the village and enjoy the picturesque beauty of the fishing pond.

After seated, Tan* has ordered few dishes - 4 fishes and 1 Vegetable. Yes, this is really 全鱼宴, you can’t see other dishes like chicken at here, if you are chicken lover, who can’t live without the chicken one, it’s advisable to bring your self. Haha. This is what their specialty, which only have Fresh Water Fish and Vegetable (limited choice) and and and…. Flies…… Haha.

About 20mins-30mins, our dishes was served on the table. The dishes really fresh, appetizing and really make salivating everywhere.

1) 3 flavors “tilapia” Fish 三味金锋鱼
- it’s a deep fried fish with combination of 3 different taste of sauté, you can taste sweet, sour and spicy from the sauté.

2) Deep Fried “Sultan” Fish
- This is highly recommended dish and also my favorite among all. I have a very bad impression when I first look into this fish, I was wondering why this fish look soooo ugly, and does not expect it has a good taste too. Sigh, after taste it, I totally change my mind, it was really CRISPY and DELICIOUS. Conclusion is, don’t judge people by using outlook only, even the Fish… hehe.. or probably I can sing the song “我很丑,可是我很温柔…”

3) Thai Sauté “White Catfish” 泰式“白须公“
- I am the person of only know how to eat, but don’t know how to differentiate the species of either fish, vegetable, etc, except this one, as this fish got a very remarkable area which they have four pairs of barbels ("whiskers") around the mouth, two on the chin, one at the angle of the mouth, and one behind the nostril.
- The meet is very smooth, very good to eat.

4) Ginger and Garlic of “Striped Catfish” 鸳鸯Patin 鱼
- This is the steam fish with garlic and ginger. The meat is quite thick. Not bad too.

I really feel satisfaction on the dishes, no regret at all on trying this meals. For sure I will visit this restaurant again. Not only the dishes are good, the price are reasonable too. Its only cost us about RM175 (7 ppls, 3 big bottles of herbal tea, 5 bowl of rice, 4 fishes, 1 vege), which its only RM25 per person… Good !!!! I also bought one live White Catfish for my mom and it’s only cost RM27 for 1.7kg.

JuRin Japanese Restaurant

I think this recently I really got luck on eating 食福…
My dance partner – Ng* treated me lunch last Saturday 16th May 2009 at JURIN Japanese restaurant.

We have ordered Sashimi Platter Set, Scallop Set, Salmon Sushi, Garlic Rice and 2 Soft Shell Crabs Roll.

All the dishes was really make me mouth watering and its really nice and delicious.

The Sashimi platter set contains of Salmon, Squids, White Tuna, etc, with the nice presentation. The sashimi and the salmon sushi was so fresh, and the taste and the texture totally different from what we eat in “commercial sushi shop” like Sushi King, or even Sakae. Haha, it’s a stupid answer hor, of course it’s a big different, don’t talk about the freshness or the sashimi texture, or the quality which we may not know how to compare it, lets talks about the price, its cost us about RM59.80 / plate, expensive neh !!!

Other than Sashimi Set, I love Soft Shell Crab Rolls, it is something that you have to try it out. It cost RM9.80 per roll.

Garlic Rice (RM13.80), I cant say its very nice, but Sakae Restaurant its better than Ju-Rin and cheaper too.. =P

Teppanyaki Scallop (RM29.80), the scallop was big and you can still can taste the lemon. With the lemon, it not only bring up the taste and probably they want to eliminate the 腥味? Erm? I don't know.. haha...

Thanks to Ng*, so that I have chance to try this good food!!!

"Fresh Water Shrimp" Trip, Tg.Tualang @ 2nd May 2009

Yipee Yipee, finally, it’s 2nd May 2009, we was invited to go to Tg Tualang for the delicious “fresh water shrimp”… I been waiting this day for sooooo long after knowing the shop been promoted and recommended by AhXian before.

所谓出门遇贵人,PiecesKing met his colleague at highway, and his colleague guided us to the destiny and we reached the destination without any searching/lost. Happy happy. Hehe.

Initially we plan to visit 新美芳海鲜楼,but too bad, the fresh water shrimp is only available around 2pm. Then we have decided to change to “Yew Kei Seafood Restaurant”. The Fresh Water Shrimp in Aquarium had make our eyes “blinking” and suddenly I heard my stomach was playing “drum” already.

Without any waiting, we have ordered 600gm of steam fresh shrimp, 600gm of “招牌干煎虾”, and another plate of vegetable.

A very first dish, steam fish shrimp, we can tasted that it has added wine into the sauté. The shrimp not only can retain its natural juice and taste, and it has absorbed the wine fragrant and it bring the taste to it best !! Nice!!!

Second dish, 招牌干煎生虾, at first, I don’t have special feeling when I first looking on the dish presentation who knows it’s totally out of my expectation, the taste was superb!!! Its cook together with the “bak yew pok”, that’s the reason why the dish become so “out standing”, very smell good and nice to eat. Not only that, another thing that caught my stomach was the “shrimp head-虾头”, as it’s contain a lot of 虾膏…. When the time I enjoyed the dishes, I really feel like I was in
Eating Heaven… And if you ask me, will you come again.. I will tell you loudly, Yes, I will come again! The dishes really make me mouth watering !!! But next time I will visit another shop which we plan to go initially, so that we can make the comparison. Hehe.

Third dish, although it just vegetable (paku pakis) that cooked with sambal, but it taste nice too.. hehe.

As what we expected, the bill is within our budget. It cost us RM81.80. If you feel like going, here is the contact information

Good thing was always happened around us, something was out of our planning, and we found one famous fruit stall that sell “文头浪冰”. Its just located opposite of the “Yew Kei” restaurant, you might not be noticed as it looks like a normal fruit stall only.
We have ordered 2 glasses; One is normal “文头浪冰” and another one with coconut milk. The taste is something like “Penang Okio”, which it contains the jelly in the drink, and it taste a bit sweet and sour. I prefer the one with coconut milk, the taste is nicer. Hehe.

After drinking, we are heading to Ipoh Original White Coffee…. Erm, if you know me, normally I don’t drink coffee due to I allergic to the coffee, I will feel headache when I drink it. But but but…. The coffee aromatic fragrant has make me feel like trying and some more we been drive from Penang to Ipoh just to try out the Ipoh good food. Without thinking any further, I’ve ordered one cup of Ipoh Original White Coffee and egg tarts.

Really feel satisfaction on Ipoh Makan-Makan Trip, before depart to Penang, I’ve bought salted chicken for my parents. It is advisable to call for ordering, else it will cause “human traffic jam”

HaiBoey Seafood on Labor Day

PiecesKing* had organized gathering with his brothers and friends at HaiBoey Seafood. After drama practice, he fetched me to Vblogger* house. Something had caught my attention, I saw Blue* was hold a girl and stepped into Vblogger* house. Wow, it’s his new girl friend. She is quite pleasant looking, not really a talkative person, but overall she still ok. As she still make the initiative to talk with Blue*’s friend. Anyway, congratulation to Blue*, your new life is begin. Hehe.

After everyone was gathered, we departed to HaiBoey, the restaurant located at Gertak Sanggul. To get to Gertak Sanggul, you need to go to Bayan Lepas (where the Penang International Airport is), go all the way to Teluk Kumbar and when you reach the pekan (small town), there is a huge sign turning left with Hai Boey seafood sign. Keep going and watch out for the hidden seafood place. HaiBoey consider is “end of the sea” and it’s provided a fishing village feel.

Due to that day was a Public Holiday (Labor Day), we been waiting the dishes for almost few hours, don’t talk about food, even they served us the drinks after an hours.

Really unreasonable, bad service!!

The funniest thing was we have ordered 40 glasses of drinks due to the reason of long waiting, I think it can hit the drinking championship record already.

The Picture shown we have ordered lots of drinks, and yet there have collected some of the empty glasses already.

Nearly 9pm, all the dishes only served on the table, sigh !!!! We had ordered almost 9 dishes.

1) Vegetable 2) Salted Egg Crabs Fried Rice 3) Phuket sauté Kappa 4) Salad Deep Fried Squilla Shrimp 5) Deep Fried Squids 6) Prawn 7) Clay pot Fish 8) Deep fried brinjal ball 9) Fried Rice.

Among the dishes, claypot fish and salted egg crabs are recommended dishes, the rest, the taste was just “so so “ only. Salted Fish fried rice was the worst among all, no taste at all, I think my mom can even cook better than that =P

Total bill was RM420.40 for 12 adults and 2 children… I think it’s a bit expensive for it.

Due to there is no celebration this recently and suddenly feel like eating, so I have to bought this ingredients in the market and have spent around RM30 for this dish (not cheap har?) hehe.

Surprisingly, he like the dish very much, but it will be better if the soup is not that spicy. I will be more careful next time and will not simply put LOTs of dried chilis anymore. Haha.
